Just before Hwy 50 begins the windy two lane section where it crosses the American River, is the left hand turn off to Ice House Lake. 

Turn left and follow the Ice House road about 5 miles where you'll see quarry on the right side of the road.   IHOP1 is about a half mile further. 

The road makes a gentle uphill sweeping right hand curve around the quarry and then will take another, but tighter curve to the left, climbing all the way. 

As the road straightens at the top of the curve, you'll see a large graveled area with a big gravel conveyor sitting on the south (left) side.  That's IHOP1.  Turn left into the gravel area to park.

To get to the IHOP2 observing site, do not turn into the IHOP1 parking lot.  Keep going another 1/4 mile and make a left hand turn onto Peavine Ridge Road.  It's the first road to the left after the IHOP1 parking lot.  About a 1/2 mile down the road, you'll see a large parking area off to the left with an old shed/barn on the left.  That's IHOP2.
